Re: Extra income vs Savings

I think that we should probably keep "Spending" as the metric that is shown upfront (like the graph) since that is more relatable, but I will include "withdrawal" in the CSV file and for use in calculating the year-to-year numbers.

Re: Original VPW Bug?

longinvest,

Fixing this bug was indefinitely put aside, because of me working on a total re-work of the site. When the total re-work comes out (I was hoping this week), we can check on how VPW is looking.

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Hm, I thought the Open Source project moved to a Jan 1st kind of math? BUG: using the inflation-adjusted simplest simulation, I would have expected the first data point of any cycle to be (portfolio=$1M minus $40k; spending = $40k). And yet, this is not what happens... Ok, I'll stop there - can't g...

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Well, I wanted to start checking a few logs, but... I really need the 'specific years' feature to work to compare to my own Excel spreadhseet... :geek: I tried the single cycle, it works, but... ahem, I found another issue (same issue with a regular all-years simulation): BUG: nothing happens with ...

Re: Extra income vs Savings

Firstly, there is definitely some sort of bug in the legacy cFIREsim in regards to withdrawals if you select a date to retire that is in the future. I'm not sure if that is what you mean. Secondly, I'd like to argue that for simplicity's sake there is NOT 2 different types of income/savings. In the ...

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Ohhh, you're right about logging in. I was messing with the database stuff right before leaving on the weekend. Oops.

I'll fix it tonight ;)

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Hey Bo, Quite some work put in this open source project, this is cool. I did a few tests with the current version, here are various (hopefully constructive) comments. I'll refrain for making comments exceeding the scope of the existing main page (let's catch up first!). * BUG: The Sign-in link does...

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

Good god I've been awful at keeping up with this forum. Ok, here's a rundown (caveat: I do not say that this is right or wrong. This is how FireCalc does it, and I reverse engineered this from FireCalc to use on cFIREsim). Given a portfolio of $1,000,000. Any given "Market Gain" = (Market ...

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

I'm sorry that it took so long to get you a reply. I've been in the midst of a real estate transaction and a move. I will report back the answer tomorrow. All I will say now, as a teaser, is that it took me a long time to figure out how FireCalc used Shillers numbers. Make sure you remember dividend...
