Re: non-recurring income not included in calculations

Well, by debugging in the browser, I already found the issue and the fix... but I can't update it from work. Again, I will report back later (maybe 5pm EST).

Re: non-recurring income not included in calculations

Hmm. It appears that non-recurring income AND spending is not showing up.

I'll log it on GitHub as an issue and fix it as soon as I get home from work. Check back for updates.

Thanks for reporting.

cFIREsim Open - Site Redesign

If you haven't been here in awhile, you'll notice that the site looks different. This is the result of the cFIREsim Open Source project. With the help of (as of today) 8 other contributors, we've redesigned the site to be faster and for the code to be more transparent. This will hopefully allow a de...

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Also, I'm not sure what URL you've been trying, but I just updated the version at http://104.131.112.188/input.php with work I've done. Output graphs show up in tabs. Stats are there. Still trying to work through a bug in the output graphs. Things are getting closer.

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

I tried again, and using default parameters, the same thing occurs. I have a bit of a suspicion that the portfolio value by the end of the year is displayed, instead of the portfolio value at the beginning of the year - not sure though. The graphs ARE the end of year portfolio numbers, do you think...

Ha. No problem. I've been fooled on Excel's "show only so many levels of precision" trick before myself.

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

FireCalc (and thus cFIREsim) has always used the Dividend value of January of any given year for the yearly value. The Shiller Data set shows 1872.01 as 0.2633. Did you make that yearly version yourself?

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

FWIW, I'm not going to try and track this down 100% quite yet, because I'm about to release a completely new version of the site that is open source. You can access it here: http://104.131.112.188/dev/input.php but I'm constantly working on it, so don't expect 100% working stuff. The year-to-year ga...

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

Thanks for the response! I added some columns to the "chapt26" spreadsheet, "Data" worksheet (Robert Shiller's data), where column B has the Market Price that you refer to, and Column C has the Dividends. For 1871, I do get the values to match per your example, which matches wha...

Re: Beta Testing Siamond

The spend for the year is really the *budgeted* spend for the year (therefore $40k with default settings), but it is not withdrawn yet (I tend to think of it as: we do the math on Jan 1st, and budgeted money is withdrawn and moves to a checking/savings account on Jan 2nd). On Jan 1st of the 2nd yea...
