Re: Thoughts on negative portfolio amounts?

A couple more things. 1) In this suggestion thread http://www.cfiresim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=154 made before my hiatus I made a suggestion to add a value "Earliest Failure Year" to the table. I think this is a key value. I think the question of "What's the earliest I will ...

Re: Thoughts on negative portfolio amounts?

I think there is value to the negative values as long as they are calculated in the right way (ie not multiplying negatives by market performance). The negative value gives you an idea if your shortfall is catastrophic or whether it's in the range where it could possibly be covered by borrowing from...

Re: Spending Floor field, add ceiling option

Wow, this latest update is looking really really good. The dividers you put in really make a big impact and hiding those extra fields in the right. Great to see a spending ceiling now. You might consider hiding them when Inflation Adjusted spending mode is selected since it can't vary, and this woul...

Order saved simulations by date

I'm not entirely clear how the saved simulations are currently ordered. It doesn't seem to be by date (my oldest simulations are in the middle), alphabetical, id number, etc. Personally I'd find it most useful for them to be ordered by date. One other thing that would be nice is if you save a sim wi...

Spending Floor field, add ceiling option

I was thinking since we have the Spending Floor field with a customizeable floor that can be added in addition to the selected Spending method, why not flesh it out with a defineable ceiling option, too? To save space it could be done with just the one dropdown. Instead of "spending floor"...

Re: Stats Table: Percentile Breakdown and Earliest Failure

I had a similar thought that it would be cool to see an average and median line on the graph. Something to note, though, the graph would have to have all the cycles starting on the same year for the median/percentile lines to really make sense when overlaid over the cycles (which would be a neat thi...

Re: User Interface design

Regarding the discussion around splitting drag up I don't have a strong preference either way, but interface wise I'd like to propose actually taking the whole idea of drag and giving it it's own settings area on the right. The overarching rationale for my UI layout was to put all the "knowns&q...

Re: User Interface design

Hey, sorry for the delayed response, been a crazy week. Wow, this UI is really coming along! Nice job! I didn't expect the new visual style but I think I like it so far. Here's a bunch of first impression comments and then I'll go back to the posts above an see if there's any specific questions/comm...

Stats Table: Percentile Breakdown and Earliest Failure

So Siamond had a great idea in the other thread regarding viewing a stat by percentile breakdown and I wanted to take a stab at it: The only concept I have in my own Excel sheet that has no equivalent here is a split per percentile. What I do is that I take a given metric (e.g. average first X years...

Re: Ignore last years for portfolio dips calculations in VPW

Well, I don't think that ignoring a specific amount of years is even relevant for that method. In fact, I'm pretty sure when I was doing the old Dip chart, I completely omitted it for VPW because it doesn't make sense. The current dip chart is showing zeros for VPW and dip analysis is showing the m...
